Seven houseboats, three wooden sheds go up in flames at Nigeen Lake

Srinagar: At least seven houseboats and three wooden sheds were damaged in a midnight blaze that broke out in Nigeen Lake, officials said on Monday.
An official from Fire and Emergency Service (F&ES) said that a massive blaze broke out in the intervening night of Sunday-Monday at Nigeen Lake, engulfing seven houseboats and three wooden sheds.
The seven houseboats including Royal Paradise, India Palace, Jersey, Lily of the world, New Maharaja Palace, Young Swift and Flora were damaged completely, he said, adding that there was no loss of life or injury during the incident.
Locals said that soon after the fire broke out at around 2:30 PM, the people swung into action and tried to douse the flames till the fire fighters reached the spot.
The blaze was brought under control, but till then seven houseboats and three wooden sheds got damaged completely.
They said that the property worth crores of rupees got damaged during the blaze and appealed the administration to assist the affected families and help them in repairing their houseboats. (KNO)
