SHEW Shopian conducts awareness camp at Hermain

SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 06: Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW),Shopian, today organised a comprehensive awareness programme on Women Empowerment Schemes and Initiatives, with a special focus on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Child Marriage Prevention at Anganwadi Centre (AWC) Hermain, Shopian.

The programme aimed to educate women, adolescent girls, parents, and community members about various government schemes designed to uplift and empower women socially, economically, and educationally.

Officials from Mission Shakti provided detailed information on different women-centric schemes, including support for education, health, skill development, financial independence, and safety. Special emphasis was laid on the objectives and benefits of the BBBP campaign, highlighting the importance of valuing the girl child, promoting their education, and ensuring their protection.

A dedicated session on Child Marriage was also conducted, where participants were made aware of the legal provisions under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA) 2006, the legal age of marriage, penalties for violations, and the negative impact of early marriage on the health, education, and future of girls.

Speakers stressed the need for collective community responsibility to prevent child marriage and encouraged participants to report any suspected cases to the concerned authorities.
