The Tourism Department has been showcasing what Kashmir has to offer to tourists in various seasons. In this regard, this year as well as last year, several festivals were organized in spring as well as in winter, offering to the world the enchanting beauty of Kashmir has to offer. For showcasing the spring beauty, many spots were identified where festivals were held to attract more and more tourists. The same happened during winters when special arrangements were made at different tourist resorts aimed at enticing tourists; however, what has remained missing from the scene is presenting the autumn beauty of Kashmir to the world.
Kashmir, perhaps, has a distinction of presenting different colors of its beauty to people at different times of the year and the color of autumn is one among many when the beauty of the summer season reaches its climax, letting the crimson take over and present a different side of the already beautiful picture: that’s what autumn is when it feels like, all of a sudden, something different, something breathtakingly beautiful has just emerged in front of the eyes. The tourists do know how it feels like to be in Kashmir in the spring season, or for that matter, in winters when snow-clad mountains and bone-chilling cold rule this place, but somehow, they hardly know about what Kashmir has to present in autumn, and end up missing a whole lot of beauty.

Whosoever comes to visit this place, they go back with a lifetime experience which they find hard to be replaced with anything else, but, what if, the necessary measures are taken by the tourism department to specifically hold autumn festivals in Kashmir to call in tourists to have marvelous experience of a different side of Kashmir’s picturesque beauty, wouldn’t that make a total difference? Yes, that would indeed, because the tourism potential of the autumn season, specifically, has so far remained untapped although it has got a lot more to offer to the tourists coming not only from various parts of the country but from various other countries.

If we go by the figures, then, we have already had the highest number of tourists arriving in Kashmir in decades and perhaps have got the distinction of hosting the highest number of foreign tourists in comparison to other parts of the country.  There is no denying the fact that the Tourism Department has done a great job in the last few years, particularly, after 2019, when focused efforts were made to ensure a boost in tourist footfall, but there is a need to do more. While a lot has been done, there is a need to promote Kashmir’s autumn season, too, and necessary steps, in this regard, need to be taken to attract more and more visitors, because the autumn is very well in Kashmir these days, better let people have a glance of it before it paves a way for the chilling winters to set in.
