Usman Majid Intensifies Election Campaign, Vows to Fight for the Welfare of Tribal Communities

Former Minister and MLA Bandipora, Usman Majid, on Thursday intensified his election campaign across the Bandipora constituency. Majid addressed a series of meetings in various areas of the Bandipora constituency, including Bagh, Pethkoot, Bunkoot, Aloosa, Ahamsharief, Mantrigam, Sonerwani, Arin and other upper reaches. On the occasion, dozens of political workers from the Congress Party joined forces with Usman Majid.

These meetings were part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen his support base and reach out to every corner of Bandipora. Addressing the gatherings, Majid said, “Our movement is reaching every household in Bandipora, and we are committed to ensuring equitable development across the region. The trust people have placed in me, reflected in the joining of new members, is a testament to the awareness and discernment of Bandipora’s citizens, who judge leadership on merit.”

Majid reiterated his commitment to the welfare and socio-economic upliftment of the Gujjar, Bakerwal, and Pahari communities in Bandipora. He vowed to address the concerns of these historically marginalized groups, alongside the socially disadvantaged castes, ensuring they are no longer sidelined on the path to a more equitable future.

“We will end the backwardness of the community by implementing welfare schemes specifically designed for them. Our focus will be on improving healthcare and education for the children of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to thrive,” Majid emphasized.

Reflecting on the long-standing political neglect faced by the ST community, Majid asserted that these communities have often been treated as mere vote banks by certain political figures in Bandipora. “Those days are gone,” he said, pledging to work for their comprehensive upliftment—socially, economically, educationally, and politically—across Jammu and Kashmir.

Majid further outlined his vision to enhance the quality of life for the Gujjar, Bakerwal, and Pahari communities by upgrading educational facilities, expanding healthcare infrastructure, and improving road networks. “My mission is to provide equitable access to basic services and opportunities so that every individual within these communities can experience a higher standard of living,” he said.

He also promised the proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act of 2006 to protect the rights of forest dwellers and indigenous communities, if voted. “We will ensure that the rights of forest dwellers are respected and safeguarded. We will advocate vigorously for their protection, addressing any harassment they face, and making sure their voices are heard—from the streets to the assembly.”

Majid stressed his commitment to fighting for the rights of socially disadvantaged castes, ensuring they are fully included in development efforts. “We will fight for the rights of these marginalized communities, ensuring their dignity, aspirations, and opportunities for growth are at the centre of our agenda.”

Majid also emphasized the importance of empowering tribal and indigenous youth by creating platforms for their growth and equipping them with the tools needed to become self-reliant in today’s economy. He stated that securing land rights, forest rights, and protecting natural resources will be among his top priorities once elected.

Addressing the broader context of tribal and indigenous rights, Majid asserted that this cause is not just a regional issue but a national one that demands attention and action from all stakeholders. “Tribals and indigenous groups are the backbone of our cultural and social heritage, and they deserve their rightful place in the nation’s development agenda.”

Majid called upon his supporters and the public to join the movement with renewed energy, emphasizing that the time for change is now. “This election is not just about political victory; it’s about securing justice for communities that have been marginalized and exploited for far too long. We will work to build a future where tribal, indigenous, and socially disadvantaged communities can thrive, free from poverty, exploitation, and discrimination.”

He added that, “We will not stop until every voice from these communities is heard, their rights are upheld, and their dignity is restored. Our fight is for justice, equality, and a more inclusive future for all.”

Meanwhile, DDC member Firdousa Akhter also addressed a series of meetings in various areas of the Bandipora constituency, including Shokbaba, Bagh Bandipora, and Bandipora town. These gatherings were part of efforts to intensify the election campaign and strengthen the support base of Usman Majid.

During these meetings, Firdousa welcomed several political workers from various parties, including the Congress, who joined forces with Usman Majid. Expressing his delight at the new additions to his political camp, Firdousa asserted that the Joining of new entrants brings strength and unity to their collective efforts in serving the people of Bandipora.
