Awareness activities on prevention, control held across Jammu Division

JAMMU, APRIL 25: World Malaria day was observed today across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the visionary supervision of Secretary Health & Medical Education M. Raju, strategic guidance of Mission Director NHM Akriti Sagar, dedicated support of the Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar and with the teamwork of all the staff working under the administrative control of State Malariologist Dr. Ratesh Khullar.

A Rath Yatra was organized by the Office of the State Malariologist, highlighting this year’s “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must”. The aim of the Rath Yatra was to impart awareness regarding prevention, control and elimination of Malaria from the Union Territory.

At the flagging off ceremony, DHSJ Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar highlighted the achievements made by the Union Territory in control of malaria and minimizing the trends of malaria. Elaborating on the preparedness for the control of malaria, he stressed that coordinated efforts from all stakeholders shall pave the way towards elimination of malaria with newer tools and windows of opportunities.

Other activities included publishing of IEC material in leading UT & local newspapers. Information regarding awareness on Malaria was spread by interview on Akashwani Jammu and also an audio spot was played throughout the day on Akashwani Jammu and other FM Channels educating the people about various aspects of prevention and control of Malaria.

The World Malaria Day was also observed at Provincial Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, LRPU Gangyal, Government Hospital Sarwal where Malaria workers, staff of the Hospitals spread awareness regarding prevention, control and elimination of Malaria.

The Day was also observed at the District headquarters and Block headquarters with the participation of schools and distribution of IEC material.

The IEC campaign was also carried out through social media platforms .
The banners with the IEC material were display at various prominent points for general awareness of the public.
Involvement of RBSK teams and School Health teams was also ensured in the campaign.
