Transport Commissioner visits proposed site for training, testing centre

DODA: Transport Commissioner, Bhupinder Kumar, Tuesday visited proposed site for Integrated Institute of Driving cum Training, Research, Inspection and Certification centre in Doda.

Taking cognizance of recent years’ data reflecting increase in road accidents in the district, the J&K government has sanctioned a state of the art facilities for commuters and applicants to learn about driving and traffic rules, besides, creating facility of inspection and certification centre to issue road worthy fitness certificates to the commercial vehicles as per Motor vehicle Act and provision there under.

Pertinently, there are only two such institutes under construction, one at Jammu and the second at Srinagar while this be the third such establishment in the UT.

Transport Commissioner was informed that with availability of such facility here in Chenab valley, the desirous applicants shall be imparted professional training skills in driving with state of the art facilities. Inspection and certification centre will be useful in conducting inspection of commercial vehicles to issue fitness certificates after conducting fitness test through advanced methods. These facilities will be developed over a land of about 120 kanal in the district.

Transport Commissioner directed PWD Engineers and ARTO Doda to visit Jammu to study and see such facilities under construction there and prepare DPR accordingly to make the institute come as per the requirements of the area and standard specifications as well.
