KATHUA, NOVEMBER 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kathua, under the administrative control of SKUAST-Jammu, today concluded the 15-day training programme on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) for Krishi Udyamis of Kisan Khidmat Ghars (KKGs) and licensed input dealers here on its campus.

Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma attended the valedictory function. He appreciated KVK Kathua for organising capacity-building programs to promote scientific and sustainable agricultural practices at the grassroots level. “Agriculture is steadily transitioning into an enterprise-driven sector where scientific decision-making, cost optimisation and market awareness are central to enhancing farmers’ income,” he noted. He highlighted the role of Integrated Nutrient Management in reducing fertilizer expenditure and improving soil productivity. He urged KKG teams to function as effective village-level extension centres and ensure timely and responsible advisory services to farmers.

A Mission Yuva awareness session was also conducted during the training on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner.

Earlier, Chief Scientist and Head KVK Dr. Vishal Mahajan presented an overview of the programme and informed that the trainees were exposed to expert lectures, laboratory sessions, field demonstrations and hands-on practical exercises focusing on balanced nutrient application, soil health management and adoption of integrated nutrient practices.

The training covered soil sampling and soil health card interpretation, organic and bio-fertilizers, green manuring, micronutrient management, hydroponics, climate-resilient nutrient planning and demonstrations on cost-effective nutrient management strategies.

Participants expressed appreciation for the training, stating that it enhanced their technical understanding and improved their ability to guide farmers. Certificates were distributed among all trainees.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Vishal Sharma, Scientist (Agronomy), while Dr. Anamika Jamwal conducted the proceedings.
