SRINAGAR, MARCH 11: Social Welfare Department (SWD) Srinagar organized an Intergenerational Bonding Programme along with a Screening-cum-Medical Camp for senior citizens at Miskeenbagh, Khanyar under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY).
The programme aimed to foster meaningful interaction between the younger generation and elderly citizens while simultaneously addressing the healthcare needs of senior citizens through medical screening and consultation services.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of about 200 senior citizens and students of about 150 from nearby educational institutions, and healthcare professionals.
During the Intergenerational Bonding Programme, students interacted with the elderly through engaging discussions, cultural exchanges, and storytelling sessions. The senior citizens shared their experiences, life lessons, and wisdom with the students, creating a warm and emotionally enriching environment. The interaction helped strengthen mutual understanding, respect, and empathy between generations.
Alongside the bonding activities, a Screening-cum-Medical Camp was conducted where medical professionals carried out general health check-ups and basic medical screening of dementia and other diseases for the senior citizens.
Doctors also provided consultations and guidance on preventive healthcare, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices to promote the well-being of the elderly.
The Tehsil Social Welfare officer, North, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting the dignity, care, and active participation of senior citizens in society. She also highlighted that involving students in intergenerational programmes helps instill values of compassion and respect towards the elderly among the youth.
SWD Srinagar reiterated its commitment to continue organizing similar activities under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana to enhance the quality of life and social inclusion of senior citizens.
