PD&SJ Budgam inaugurates 2nd National Lok Adalat 2026; Over Rs 91.44 lakh releases as compensation

BUDGAM, MAY 09: Under the aegis of NALSA and the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam successfully organized the 2nd National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 at the District Court Complex Budgam, as well as in the Taluka Courts across the district.

O.P Baghat, Principal District & Sessions Judge (PD&SJ), Chairman District Legal Services Authority Budgam, inaugurated the 2nd National Lok Adalat along with the Judicial Officers posted at district headquarter. The 2nd National Lok Adalat was held under the overall supervision of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Budgam.

For smooth disposal, cases were pre-identified by the respective courts and placed before eight dedicated benches constituted by DLSA Budgam for settlement.

The first Bench comprised of O.P Baghat, Principal District and Sessions Judge Budgam and Lateef Ahmed Khan, Chief LADC Budgam. The 2nd Bench comprised of Yahya Firdous, Additional District Judge Budgam and Shabbar Ayaz, Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board Budgam. The 3rd Bench comprised of Abdul Bar, Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam and Tasneem Kawoosa, Munsiff/JMIC Budgam. The 4th Bench comprised of Shafeeq Ahmad Malik, Sub-Judge Chadoora and A.R Hanjura, Senior Advocate. The 5th Bench comprised of Syed Tayoub Bukhari, Munsiff JMIC Chadoora and Syed Rafiq, Panel Lawyer. The 6th Bench comprised of Rabiya Snober Gulzar, Munsiff JMIC Magam and Advocate Liyaqat Hussain, Panel Lawyer.

Likewise, the 7th Bench comprised of Aiman Amin, Munsiff JMIC Chrar-e-sharif and N.A Mashooq, Bar President Chrar-e-sharif. The 8th Bench comprised of Tawfeel Ahmad Mir, Additional Mobile Magistrate Beerwah and Muneer-ul-Rehman, Panel Lawyer.

The cases taken up for settlement included a wide range of matters such as civil disputes, compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce cases, bank recovery matters, MACT claims, land compensation cases, matrimonial disputes, pre-litigation cases, social welfare disputes, labour cases, revenue disputes, BSNL-related issues, municipal cases, and other matters related to government schemes.

In total 1023 cases were taken up before the benches, out of which 585 cases were amicably settled. A total settlement amount of Rs 91,44,578 was awarded/realized as compensation and recovery during the Lok Adala.
