SHOPIAN, AUGUST 13: Director General, Rural Sanitation, J&K, Anoo Malhotra today visited Shopian and chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and related rural sanitation and solid waste management initiatives in the district.

The meeting was attended by the ACP Shopian Muzaffar Ahmad Sheikh and Block Development Officers (BDOs) of all the blocks of the district, who briefed the Director General on the status of ongoing sanitation interventions, solid and liquid waste management activities, and implementation of SBM (G) components at the block level.

The Director General reviewed the progress of sanitation infrastructure, waste management systems, household-level interventions and other key programme deliverables.

She stressed the need for time-bound completion of pending works, effective utilisation of created assets and strengthening of sustainable waste management mechanisms across rural areas.

The BDOs were directed to maintain close field-level monitoring, ensure proper functionality and upkeep of sanitation assets, and intensify community participation and behaviour-change activities to consolidate the gains achieved under SBM (G).

The ACP Shopian and concerned officers were also urged to ensure close inter-departmental coordination for addressing implementation gaps and achieving the targets within stipulated timelines.

The DG emphasized that the district-level reviews are aimed at ensuring visible, measurable and sustainable outcomes in rural sanitation, with a particular focus on effective waste management and long-term maintenance of sanitation assets.
