GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 24: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, today chaired a meeting to review the progress in implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 in the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the status of identification of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), issuance of non-compliance notices, enforcement of the ban on single use plastics, functioning of waste sheds and proper processing of waste. He directed the concerned officers to ensure strict compliance and timely follow up action in all areas.
The DC stressed upon the concerned authorities to ensure proper segregation of waste and strengthen the door to door collection system for effective handling of segregated waste.
He also stressed the need for continued capacity building initiatives for concerned officials and stakeholders and directed the authorities to intensify school level awareness activities to promote responsible waste management practices among students and the community.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to ensure strict implementation of the ban on single-use plastics and take action against violators, including imposition of fines as per applicable provisions.
The functioning of waste sheds and arrangements for proper processing of collected waste were also reviewed. The DC directed the concerned agencies to ensure proper segregation, processing and scientific management of waste at designated facilities.
Emphasising the importance of public participation, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, District Pollution Control Officer, Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Ganderbal and all Block Development Officers to intensify IEC activities across all blocks, panchayats and urban areas of the district.
The DC further directed that data be updated regularly, proper records of action taken be maintained and follow-up reviews conducted to assess progress and address gaps in implementation.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 requires sustained coordination among all concerned departments and directed the officers to ensure strict enforcement, regular monitoring and active public participation towards making Ganderbal cleaner and more sustainable.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats Ganderbal, District Pollution Control Officer Ganderbal, Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Ganderbal and all Block Development Officers of District Ganderbal, besides other concerned officers.
