Sangrama villagers face acute water scarcity, seek Govt’s intervention

Baramulla, Mar 12 : The residents of Sangrama village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district here have accused the Jal Shakti department of ignoring their plights, saying that they are being forced to consume contaminated water.

Speaking to news agency—, Syed Colony Sangrama villagers said that they have been battling with the challenges of water supply for the last at least 15 years.

They also alleged the concerned department is least bothered about their genuine grievances.

“We are facing an acute shortage of drinking water supply. The authorities have turned a deaf ear towards our repeated pleas. They are making no effort to ease our difficulties,” Moomin Fayaz, a local, said.

Fayaz added that they are being forced to fetch water from wells and local streams, which usually remain contaminated, thereby leading to the health hazard for them.

“We were getting tanker services to meet the ends, however, the department stopped the services for the reasons best known to them,” said Fatima Begum, a local.

The residents appealed Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and the concerned department to look into the matter at an earliest.

Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Department Sopore, Mudasir Ahmed told KNO that they will look into it and ensure the residents won’t suffer anymore.
