RAMBAN, FEBRUARY 18: Former Vice President and In-proto Vice Chancellor of International University-School of Medicine (TUSOM) and Chairman of the Afro-Eurasian Chamber of Commerce, Education, Development, and Employment (ACCEDE), Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Jyee, today presided over various interactive sessions at a seminar on disaster and environment management, as well as the promotion of agriculture, horticulture, and other allied activities.

A globally recognized expert in disaster management, Prof. Jyee has made significant contributions in the field, focusing on disaster mitigation, risk reduction, and emergency response strategies.

On the initiative of Chief Secretary J&K and Divisional Commissioner Jammu, the District Administration Ramban, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, organized this event for the first time in Ramban to enhance preparedness for natural, contemporary, and anthropogenic disasters.

Among the government functionaries present were ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACR S. Harpal Singh, Dy. SP Omparkash, Tehsildars, ARTO, senior officers, members of NGOs, and other key stakeholders.

During the session, Prof. Jyee provided valuable insights into disaster risk reduction, sustainable infrastructure development, and climate resilience. He emphasized the importance of safe construction practices for hospitals and essential infrastructure to withstand disasters. He also highlighted the significance of mass plantation drives to address climate and environmental challenges.

Prof. Jyee suggested that the government implement an Aromatic and Medicinal Plant Cultivation Scheme and explore ways to utilize natural resources to create job opportunities for youth. He also urged the Health Department to develop dedicated disaster-resilient infrastructure in hospitals to ensure uninterrupted medical services during emergencies. Additionally, he discussed the causes and preventive measures for forest fires, stressing the need for proactive strategies to mitigate their impact.

Notably, Prof. Ravi Jyee’s contributions to global peace-building have earned him the prestigious World Peace-Building and Promotion Award.

Addressing the youth, Prof. Jyee urged them to stay away from drug addiction and unlawful activities, emphasizing the importance of personal development and contributing to national progress. He also noted that Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor UT of Jammu and Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha is keen on curbing the menace of drug addiction among the youth.

The interactive Q&A session allowed officials and stakeholders to seek expert guidance on disaster mitigation, resilience-building, and inter-agency coordination. The District Administration Ramban ensured all necessary arrangements for the event, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness in the region.

These insightful sessions served as an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange, equipping stakeholders with strategies to minimize risks and improve disaster response mechanisms.
