UDHAMPUR, MARCH 20: District Election Officer Udhampur Saloni Rai chaired a meeting with representatives of various political parties to deliberate on key issues pertaining to the election process and seek their suggestions for further strengthening the electoral machinery in the district.

At the outset, DEO briefed the political representatives about the electoral machinery, key statistics related to voter strength, initiatives undertaken for Persons with Disabilities.

During the meeting, representatives of political parties put forth various suggestions to strengthen electoral machinery including establishment of polling stations in areas with a population of 1,000, rationalization of polling stations to group members of one family in a single polling station, establishment of a separate queue for senior citizens at polling stations, adequate arrangements at polling stations to tackle adverse weather conditions, increase in the number of polling stations to reduce travel distances for voters, particularly in far-flung areas.

DEO listened to all suggestions and sought specific details regarding hamlets where people are required to travel long distances to cast their votes. She also directed the Electoral Registration Officers to prevent unnecessary transposition of voters.
