GANDERBAL, JUNE 11: Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) Ganderbal today organized a legal awareness program for children at Govt. Middle School Gangerhama Ganderbal.

The program aimed to educate participants about the legal provisions for vulnerable children, including those with disabilities, transgender children, and children at risk of trafficking or abuse. It also elucidated on legal provisions, children’s rights, and accessible remedies through legal services for vulnerable children.

The initiative was effectively overseen by Abdul Nasir, Chairman, DLSA, Ganderbal, along with the guidance of Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal.

During the event, Syed Romani, Assistant LADC Ganderbal, outlined the strong legal framework in India to protect and empower vulnerable children, including the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Act, 2019, the POCSO Act, 2012, and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
Romani emphasized that children have inherent rights, including the right to life and dignity, education, protection from harm, expression, legal aid and rehabilitation.

She also highlighted available remedies for children in need, including the Child Welfare Committee, District Child Protection Unit, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), State Commission, and Childline Helpline (1098). Romani stressed that laws are just the beginning, and effective implementation, awareness, and compassion are crucial to protect children.

She urged teachers, doctors, lawyers, and judges to play their part in ensuring child-friendly procedures and providing safety and support to vulnerable children.

Aqib Ul Ahad, Assistant LADC, Ganderbal, enlightened the participants about vulnerable groups of children and their rights, emphasizing the importance of protection and support for these groups.

He also educated them about constitutional provisions related to children, child rights enshrined in the Constitution, legislative frameworks governing child rights, and the rights and remedies available to children in need through legal services.

The program provided a platform for children to learn about their rights and the legal recourse available to them.
The event was attended by students, teachers and other stakeholders, who actively participated in the discussions and deliberations.
