JAMMU, MAY 21: To ensure food safety and protect public health, the Adjudicating Officer Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) Jammu has imposed Rs 13,78,000/- on several business establishments operating in the district for violating food safety norms.

The penalties were imposed in a series of enforcement actions carried out between December- 2025 and May 2026. Fines were levied on manufacturers, distributors and retailers for violation of the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including selling or distributing substandard and misbranded food products, expired food, rotten meat and operating without valid licence etc.

Additionally, the licenses of 25 Food Business Operators (FBOs) have been recommended for suspension. These defaulters failed to deposit penalties previously imposed for serving unhygienic food, working without a valid license and dealing in substandard and misbranded products.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu Vidhu Shekhar, the designated Adjudicating Officer under FSSA, has been spearheading the crackdown to enforce District administration’s zero-tolerance policy against adulteration and mislabeling.

The Adjudicating Officer has appealed to all food business operators in the district to strictly adhere to the guidelines laid down under FSSA 2006 and ensure that only safe and properly labelled food items reach consumers. Those found flouting the norms will continue to face stringent action, officials warned.
