Srinagar: With preeminent decline in covid positive cases from last several months, Muslims across Kashmir valley on Tuesday celebrated covid confined-free Eid ul fitr after gap of two years along with the other parts of country.

Rain failed to dampen the emotions of muslims as Men and children dressed in their best thronged mosques, shrines and Eidgahs across the Valley to participate in the special prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival that marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan.

Keeping in view the weather advisory issued by the weathermen, eid prayers were held before the onset of rain, however the downpour didn’t stopped the remaining devotees from offering prayers.

As per the details available with Kashmir News Service (KNS), the largest gathering for special prayers in Kashmir was witnessed at Hazratbal shrine Srinagar where an estimated 72,000 people braved rain to offer prayers inside the mosque compound and in the open field adjacent to it.

The special Eid prayers were not held at historic jamia masjid of Srinagar city as the management refused to accept the conditions posed by the authorities.

The authorities had asked the management of mosque to hold prayers before 7AM to avoid any law and order problem and enable the law enforcement agencies to take care of safety and security of all people coming for Eid prayers more effectively.

Reports of large gatherings for special Eid prayers were also received from all district headquarters and towns of other parts of Kashmir valley. The prayers were held peacefully with no untoward incident reported so far when this report was filed.(KNS)
