BARAMULLA, JULY 30: In a dazzling display of football finesse and grit, Bandipora district clinched the coveted title of the inter district provincial level (IDPL) Under-17 Boys Football Competition by defeating Baramulla with a close margin of 4-3 via penalties, after the final match ended in a goalless draw.
The championship was hosted at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, under the supervision of the Youth Services and Sports, district Baramulla.
The tournament witnessed high-octane action as four district teams—Bandipora, Budgam, Srinagar, and Baramulla qualified for the semifinals, held earlier in the day.
In the first semifinal, Bandipora outclassed Budgam with an emphatic 4-0 victory.
The second semifinal between Baramulla and Srinagar saw a neck-to-neck battle, with Baramulla emerging victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.
The grand finale between Baramulla and Bandipora turned into a test of nerves as both sides displayed tactical brilliance and defensive resilience, leading to a goalless draw in regular time. The winner had to be decided through a penalty shootout, where Bandipora held their nerve and sealed the title with a 4-3 win.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by the Principal of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Baramulla, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Baramulla, and other senior officials of the department. The winning and runner-up teams were felicitated with trophies, medals, and certificates of appreciation.
DYSSO Baramulla congratulated all participating teams and emphasized the importance of such events in channelizing youth energy toward positive pursuits.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal of St. Joseph’s HSS Baramulla lauded the spirit of sportsmanship showcased throughout the tournament and commended the efforts of the Department in nurturing grassroots talent.
He further informed that the IDPL Under-19 Boys Football Competition is set to commence tomorrow at the same venue, promising yet another exciting chapter of youth football action in Baramulla.
