BANDIPORA, APRIL 25: Continuing the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, District Administration Bandipora today carried forward a series of intensive awareness programmes across educational institutions and communities, aimed at sensitising youth and the general public about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
At PM SHRI Government Boys Secondary School Lahrawapora, an awareness session was conducted by Medical Officer, who delivered a detailed lecture on the growing menace of drug abuse. Students were sensitised about its adverse effects on health and society and were guided on preventive measures and ways to stay away from addiction.
Similarly, under supervision of the District Ayush Officer Bandipora, an awareness programme was organised at Higher Secondary School Arin. The session focused on the causes and ill effects of smoking, highlighting its impact on individuals, families, and society at large.
In another initiative, the Department of Ayush conducted an awareness campaign coupled with a yoga session at Government High School Karnie Mohalla Shahgund. The session emphasised the role of a healthy lifestyle in preventing substance abuse. Students actively participated in yoga practices, including asanas, pranayama, and meditation, learning techniques to manage stress and avoid addiction.
As part of enforcement measures under the campaign, the Drugs Control Department Bandipora, in coordination with Police Station Argam, carried out inspections of medical shops in Chattibanday to ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
At PM SHRI HSS Shadipora, an awareness programme was organised under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan. The programme featured an awareness session and a mass pledge, wherein students and staff committed to a drug-free life.
An IEC-based awareness programme was also held at PM Shri Government High School Sumbal, where students were sensitised about the dangers of substance abuse and the influence of peer pressure. The programme included speeches, discussions, and a pledge ceremony, encouraging students to make responsible choices and act as ambassadors of change.
Meanwhile, the NCORD Cell of HKM Degree College Bandipora organised an awareness programme in the college auditorium under the leadership of Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra. The event witnessed participation from Radio Kangan 88.4 FM, and an anti-drug pledge was administered by Convener NCORD Cell, Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay, reaffirming the commitment of participants towards a drug-free society.
Adding to the momentum, a rally was organised at Radiant Public School Nadihal under the directions of the District Administration Bandipora. The rally was addressed by Dr. Irfan Hussain Banday, who highlighted the ill effects of drug abuse and emphasised the role of youth in spreading awareness and safeguarding their communities from substance abuse.
Across all programmes, pledge-taking ceremonies, awareness lectures, interactive sessions, and community outreach activities were conducted, witnessing active participation from students, teachers, healthcare professionals, and officials.
