SRINAGAR, JULY 8: The Committee on Privileges of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today convened a meeting at the Assembly Complex in Srinagar to deliberate on matters pertaining to the privileges and entitlements of legislators.

The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and attended by Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including Vikram Randhawa, Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Salman Sagar, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Bharat Bhushan and Javaid Iqbal.

The Chairman emphasized the importance of legislators asserting their constitutional rights and privileges across all appropriate platforms. He highlighted the need for a clear framework to ensure that the dignity and functioning of elected representatives is preserved and respected.

The Committee resolved to hold a joint meeting with the heads of the Law, General Administration Department (GAD) and Protocol Department to address issues within the ambit of constitutional mandate and ensure better coordination among the concerned departments.

The members held a threadbare discussion on a range of issues including staff support (drivers), security arrangements, housing and office facilities and other privileges for the legislators.

The Committee also underscored the need for enhanced hostel accommodations and club facilities for both the sitting and former legislators in Jammu and Srinagar.

The Chairman expressed confidence in the collective capabilities of the Committee members to contribute constructively and uphold the integrity of the institution. He reiterated that the Committee would work strictly within its defined mandate and would meet regularly to devise actionable plans for resolving the issues placed before it.

The members actively participated in the discussions, offering valuable suggestions and feedback on key concerns impacting the functioning of legislators.
