BANDIPORA, SEPTEMBER 24: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, today reviewed measures for coordinated supervision and surprise checking to curb illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals in the district.
During the meeting, the District Mineral Officer (DMO) apprised the meeting about the measures being undertaken to monitor mining and transportation activities. It was informed that vulnerable mining locations have been geo-fenced, while vehicles involved in mineral transportation have been equipped with GPS tracking systems to facilitate real-time monitoring and prevent unauthorized extraction and transportation.
During the meeting, it was informed that notices have been issued in cases of violations and FIRs have also been registered against those found involved in illegal mining activities.
The Deputy Commissioner directed that no mineral transportation vehicle should be permitted to operate without GPS tracking, and stressed upon strict monitoring of vehicles and movement of minor minerals. She directed the concerned departments to promptly share information, alerts and inputs regarding suspected illegal mining activities with the Police and district administration for coordinated action.
The DC further directed that Action Taken Reports (ATRs) be submitted on a monthly basis and called for continuous tracking of vehicles to identify and prevent unauthorized transportation of minor minerals.
The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the need to strengthen infrastructure and field-level mechanisms to detect and prevent illegal extraction, directing the concerned departments to identify gaps and take necessary measures to improve enforcement capabilities.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bandipora, District Mineral Officer Bandipora, while SDM Gurez, SDM Sumbal, Executive Engineers, and Assistant Director Fisheries, besides other concerned officers attended the meeting virtually.
