DC Jammu chairs meeting to review food safety mechanism across district

JAMMU, APRIL 29: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today chaired a meeting to review and strengthen the food safety and legal metrology mechanism across the district.

The meeting was attended by Sub Divisional Magistrates, Deputy Director Legal Metrology and Food Safety Officers and among other concerned officers.

The DC emphasised the need for proactive and coordinated efforts to ensure that food products available in the market comply with prescribed safety and quality standards.

During the meeting, the DC directed the officers to conduct regular market inspections, focusing on food safety checks, weight and measure verifications and hygienic conditions of food establishments. He underscored the importance of surprise checks and strict enforcement against violators under relevant laws to safeguard consumer interests.

The DC also instructed the officials to raise public awareness about food safety and grievance redressal mechanisms. In this regard, he stressed the promotion of the toll-free helpline 104, enabling citizens to report food safety concerns directly and promptly.
