RAMBAN, MAY 09: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammed Alyas Khan today conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing construction works on the four-laning of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). He assessed the progress of critical infrastructure projects and reviewed preparedness for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra scheduled to begin on July 3, 2026.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta; SSP Traffic National Highway Raja Adil Hameed; Project Director National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PIU Ramban, Shubham Yadav; SDM Ramsoo Sayed Mazahir Hussain Shah; representatives from project executing agencies and other officers.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected various construction sites and reviewed the pace of work on strategically important tunnels and viaducts being constructed along the highway stretch in Ramban district. The executing agencies informed two major viaducts are progressing as per schedule and are expected to be made operational ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, 2026.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed progress on a critical tunnel project nearing completion and directed the concerned agencies to strictly adhere to the timeline for completion of the remaining works.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the agencies to expedite road widening, strengthening and other safety-related works while maintaining strict quality standards. He further stressed the importance of speedy execution, wherever required, to meet the stipulated deadlines. Completion of these projects will significantly improve road connectivity, reduce travel time and enhance safety for all highway users, he added.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed pre-monsoon preparedness measures and instructed officials to put in place effective traffic management and contingency plans to minimize disruptions arising from adverse weather conditions. He directed the officers of NHAI to station adequate manpower and machinery at all vulnerable locations from Nashri to Banihal to effectively respond to emergency situations and ensure prompt clearance of roads in case of any blockage or disruption.

He said the District Administration is working in close coordination with all concerned departments, including NHAI and project executing agencies, to ensure that all critical works are completed well in time for the annual pilgrimage.
