SRINAGAR JULY 23: In view of the inclement weather, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), today visited the Flood Control Room at Ram Munshi Bagh and reviewed the prevailing situation and preparedness measures put in place.

During the visit, the DC chaired a comprehensive review meeting with senior Officers and assessed the current water levels, gauge readings, discharge trends and readiness of the departments to respond effectively to any emerging situation.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner was briefed about the latest gauge readings, status of River Jhelum and its tributaries and the mechanism established for round-the-clock monitoring and dissemination of real-time information. He also reviewed the contingency measures being implemented by various departments to tackle any emerging situation.

Stressing the need for constant vigilance, the DC directed the Irrigation & Flood Control Department and other line departments to maintain uninterrupted monitoring of all gauge stations and vulnerable locations. He instructed Officers to closely track the evolving situation, maintain real-time data analysis and ensure timely dissemination of updates to facilitate prompt decision-making.

The Chairman DDMA directed the concerned Departments to undertake strengthening and protective measures at all identified vulnerable spots well in advance and ensure swift action in case of any emergent situation.

Emphasizing the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders, the DC called for an efficient preparedness and response mechanism to evolving situation. He directed Officers to remain in a state of readiness by mobilizing manpower, machinery and resources, particularly at vulnerable locations.

The DC/Chairman DDMA underscored the need for seamless coordination among the Revenue teams, Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Fire & Emergency Services and other concerned agencies for seamless and coordinated preparedness efforts. He directed the concerned agencies to pre-position adequate manpower, rescue teams and essential equipment besides mobilizing field staff in advance, especially in vulnerable areas, to effectively deal with any weather-related emergencies.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, CEO DDMA, Aadil Fareed, Director IMD Srinagar Station, Mukhtar Ahmad, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, SP Headquarter, Umar Shah, SP Joint Commissioner SMC, Nuzhat Khurshid, Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineers Hydrualic, Er Anmbreen Anjum, SDM West, Irfan Bahadur, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Umar Gulzar, Executive Engineers of R&B, PHE, KPDCL, UEED, Mechanical Irrigation, I&FC, SMC, Executive Engineers, all Tehsildars, Officers from NDRF, SDRF, Health, Legal Metrology, Fire & Emergency, Forest, FCS&CA, Civil Defence and other Departments.
