SRINAGAR, MAY 18: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah today inaugurated the distribution of flower seedlings at the Floriculture Nursery, Lalmandi, in a bid to promote ornamental gardening and encourage floriculture activities among growers and gardening enthusiasts across the Valley.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Director emphasized the importance of floriculture as a viable sector for income generation, beautification, and environmental sustainability. He highlighted the department’s commitment towards providing quality planting material and technical support to farmers, youth, and urban gardeners interested in flower cultivation.

The department has made available a wide range of quality planting material at government-approved and subsidized rates, including hybrid and open-pollinated annual seedlings, imported and technically propagated potted plants, and rooted plants in polybags. The Director stated that the initiative is aimed at ensuring easy access to quality flower planting material during the summer season and enhancing the floriculture sector in the Valley.

The Director stated that the distribution programme aims to ensure the timely availability of seasonal flower seedlings to the public and promote aesthetic landscaping in residential areas, institutions, parks, and public spaces. He also urged growers to adopt modern floriculture practices for enhancing productivity and commercial opportunities.

On the occasion Deputy Director Agriculture Central Kashmir, Floriculturist Kashmir and officials of Floriculture Wing were present.
