UDHAMPUR, NOVEMBER 28: The District Level Coordination Committee today reviewed the implementation of the National Tobacco Control Program at its meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai.

The functionaries from key stakeholder departments (Committee members) attended the meeting and provided updates on the execution of the program.

At the outset, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anil Manhas presented a detailed Power Point presentation on the core objectives of NTPC and steps taken for its implementation. He elaborated on the role and responsibilities of stakeholder departments in tobacco control initiatives.

The DC underscored the importance of implementing the provisions of the COTPA 2003 in letter and spirit. She emphasized the need for the = formation of enforcement squads to ensure enforcement of tobacco control measures across the district.

SDMs and Tehsildars were directed to inspect the educational institutions within their jurisdiction in light of COTPA-2003 and submit compliance reports.

Stress was laid on effectuation of government buildings, offices, educational institutions and other public places as tobacco-free zones. District officers were directed to install “No smoking” signage in government offices and ensure the declaration of tobacco-free offices.

The DC stressed the importance of inter-sectoral convergence to ensure the success of the National Tobacco Control Programme in Udhampur district. She also highlighted the significance of creating awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption to promote a healthier and tobacco-free community.
