GANDERBAL, DECEMBER 03: The District Administration Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Dudderhama, Ganderbal.

This year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” highlighted the indispensable role of persons with disabilities in building a more inclusive and sustainable society.

The event was presided over by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ganderbal, Shyambir.
District Social Welfare Officer, Deputy Chief Education Officer and representatives from civil society organizations were present at the event. Attendees included persons with disabilities, their families, and volunteers, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and celebration.

The program featured cultural performances, skits, and the distribution of Niramaya Health Insurance cards and legal guardianship certificates.

The DDC distributed 27 Niramaya Health Insurance cards and 12 legal guardianship certificates to beneficiaries, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.
Additionally, the DDC handed over an electric wheelchair worth Rs 3 lakh to an eligible beneficiary, further strengthening the support for individuals with disabilities.

The Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme, launched by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, provides health insurance coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh, renewable annually. This scheme benefits individuals with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, and Multiple Disabilities.

In his address, the DDC appreciated the efforts of the organizers and reaffirmed the administration’s full support for initiatives aimed at the welfare of persons with disabilities. He encouraged stakeholders to continue their dedication to creating an inclusive environment.

The Executive Director of She Hope Society delivered an informative presentation on the Niramaya scheme, underlining its critical role in empowering persons with disabilities.

Speakers at the event called for the collective effort to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities and ensure their inclusion in all facets of society. They reiterated their commitment to building a society where individuals with disabilities are recognized, respected, and empowered.

The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge to foster accessibility and inclusion, ensuring that persons with disabilities have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
