GANDERBAL, DECEMBER 17: On the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and as per the calendar of activities for the year 2024 issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal today conducted a training cum orientation program for Panel Lawyers of DLSA Ganderbal and TLSC Ganderbal/ Kangan.

The training programme was held under the supervision of Abdul Nasir, Chairman, DLSA Ganderbal, and under the guidance Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal.

The program aimed to enhance the advocacy skills of Panel Lawyers, enabling them to provide more effective legal assistance to the needy and marginalized sections of society.

The training session covered various topics, including plea bargaining, rights of arrested persons, bail, premature release and interlocutory reliefs.

Secretary DLSA Ganderbal informed the Panel Lawyers about their role and responsibilities and sensitized them about societal expectations.

He also covered the constitutional perspective behind legal services, legal aid movement in India, and an overview of the schemes made under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

He highlighted that legal aid is not a charity or bounty but a constitutional obligation of the state and right of citizens. He added that legal aid strives to ensure that the constitutional pledge is fulfilled in its letter & spirit and equal justice is made available to the downtrodden and weaker sections of the society, and in achieving all this panel lawyers have a pivotal role.

He encouraged the panel lawyers to remain focused and determined in the profession and advised how to present your case & how well prepared you are, speaks a lot about the efficiency of a lawyer.

Adv. Ghulam Rasool Rather, the trainer polished the skills of the Panel Lawyers for effective delivery of legal services in the district. He provided grounding in basic lawyering skills in civil and criminal laws, drafting skills, witness examination, and building arguments.

The training cum orientation program was a huge success, with active participation of all Panel Lawyers. This initiative is expected to enhance the skills of Panel Lawyers and contribute to the effective delivery of legal services in the district, especially for the benefit of weaker and marginalized sections of the society.
