DLSA Reasi convenes Under-Trial Review Committee meeting

REASI, APRIL 16: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi today convened a meeting of the Under-Trial Review Committee (UTRC) here under the aegis of NALSA and J&K Legal Services Authority and under the direction of its Chairman Khalil Choudhary (Pr. District and Sessions Judge) and in the presence of the Secretary Pooja Gupta.

The meeting was attended by Rakesh Kumar, ADC Reasi; Iftekhar Ahmed Addl. Superintendent of Police; Satpal Sharma In-charge Public Prosecutor; Rashi Baru Chief LADC; S.P. Attri In-charge Superintendent, Sub Jail Reasi and Mohammad Irfan Khan In charge Superintendent, District Jail Udhampur, who joined the meeting virtually.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held regarding the status of under trial prisoners, their eligibility for release and the measures required expediting pending cases. Emphasis was laid on ensuring that eligible under-trials are released in accordance with legal provisions and that no individual remains in custody unnecessarily due to procedural delays.

The committee also reviewed compliance with directions of the Supreme Court and NALSA guidelines concerning under-trial prisoners.

All stakeholders were directed to work in close coordination to facilitate timely legal aid, speedy disposal of cases and to safeguard the rights of under-trial prisoners. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment towards ensuring access to justice and upholding the principles of fairness and equity.
