Doda: SWD conducts drive to rescue children in street situations
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegram

DODA, NOVEMBER 14: In a coordinated effort on Children’s Day, the Social Welfare Department, along with the Child Helpline, Child Welfare Committees, and local police, undertook a significant drive in Doda to rescue children involved in street situations, particularly begging. The initiative targeted known hotspots within the district and focused on identifying and safeguarding children at risk.

During the drive, two children were rescued, out of which one was restored to her mother and the other was placed in the Child Care Institution – Palaash temporarily till the enquiry is completed.

The Officials ensured that both the children and their families received guidance on safer, alternative avenues for assistance to address the root causes behind such situations.

In addition to rescue operations, the team conducted public awareness, emphasizing the harmful impact of child begging.

The residents were urged to avoid supporting such practices and to report any future instances of child begging for prompt intervention. This public involvement is viewed as essential in ensuring the successful rehabilitation of rescued children and discouraging exploitation.

District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Tariq Qazi, highlighted that such initiatives align with the department’s mission to create a child-safe environment across the district. Qazi assured that these drives will continue with the goal of making Doda free from child begging, reinforcing the department’s commitment to child welfare and social rehabilitation.
