BANDIPORA, APRIL 23: Continuing the outreach under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Administration Bandipora on Thursday organized a “Dosti Discussion” programme at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Izmarg in Sub-Division Gurez as part of the Deputy Commissioner’s tour.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a cultural performance highlighting the message against substance abuse, which was appreciated by the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib.
A panel discussion was held wherein students assumed the roles of a doctor, teacher, police officer, and parent, deliberating on the growing concern of substance abuse and underscoring the importance of early intervention.
The panel emphasised that awareness and preventive measures are key to addressing the issue.
Participants highlighted the harmful physical, psychological and social effects of drug addiction and stressed the need for collective efforts by families, schools and society.
During the interaction, students shared their views and raised concerns, noting that peer pressure and lack of awareness contribute to the problem. The importance of listening to parents and maintaining open communication within families was also underlined. Speakers stressed that parents must invest time in the upbringing of their children and play an active role in guiding them.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner underscored that prevention is the most effective strategy in tackling drug abuse. She urged students to stay away from harmful substances, remain vigilant and become ambassadors of change in their communities. She emphasized that strict action would be taken against those involved in drug peddling and called upon students to focus on positive activities and personal development.
The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with students on career awareness and livelihood opportunities, highlighting the importance of skill development. She encouraged youth to channel their energy towards constructive pursuits and self-reliance.
The event was attended by PO ICDS, SDM, ACP, CMO, Anganwadi workers, Asha Workers, students, faculty, local residents and other district and sectoral officers and officials.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from students and the administration to work collectively towards a drug-free society and a healthier future for the youth of Gurez.
