Drive against errant bikers continues in Baramulla

BARAMULLA, JUNE 25: On second consecutive day today, enforcement drive against motorists riding without helmets continued on various routes in the district by the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Baramulla.

During the drive, 14 motorists have been e-challaned and 8 motorcycles seized so far over past two days. Those found riding without helmets were given showcause notices for suspension of driving licences as well. Besides, 10 maxicabs have been challaned for overloading and 2 school buses blacklisted as well.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Muazzam Ali said that the drive will be continue in the coming days.
He said that it is mandatory for a two-wheeler rider and the pillion rider to wear a helmet under section 129/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

A fine of Rs.22000 has been realised from errant bikers in last two days.

The ARTO is also going to organize a counselling programme to explain the importance of helmets for those applying for the driving licence of two-wheelers. An undertaking on the use of helmet while driving two-wheelers would be taken from the applicants.
