The fall of Uddhav Thackery as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra has brought to the fore a new side of the BJP’s power securing tool: how it works is what the people have been following for a while and have seen it through. While the Shiv Sena and other parties were already seeing BJP’s hand in whisking away the rebel Shiv Sena MLA, the BJP kept denying the same till Devendra Fadnavis came into the picture—even though he was already there, but he along with his party was invisibly present behind the Maha-political crisis.
BJP comes with a strong ideology that has got so many takers across the country—and that’s what made it keep the power to itself for the second term as well—but alongside ideology, it stands firm on making the country’s politics dynasty-free. It is something the BJP has been striving for and has been able to take the people of the country in confidence to believe that the politics—if remains clutched by the dynasts—ends up giving rise to chronic corruption, weakening the system and tells upon performance in delivery.
In ensuring to side-line the dynasty politics, the line has always been crossed, especially when the importance and necessity of the independent institutions were undermined; such institutions side-lined and their directives altered to suit the execution of the plan. But, it needs to be understood that such plans, which are made by forcing the key elements to toe a line, always turn out to be short-lived, causing more damage than benefiting the political structure.
The BJP’s commitment to keeping the dynasts at bay can be understood by the fact that after the elections in 2019 in Maharashtra, it was approached by the Shiv Sena to enter into a coalition with them and form the Government, but, the party preferred to stay in opposition, paving a way for the formation of Maha Vikas Aghadi. The party, however, did not leave the arena, ended up breaking the Shiv Sena, and rather, preferred to have the power in collaboration with the breakaway faction of the Sena in place of those who actually are dynasts: the long-hauled plan.
The twist and turns, especially suddenness and out of blue-incidents are what, these days, keep the political landscape live and kicking, but while the BJP is aiming for a bigger objective—‘ Dynasty Mukt Bharat,’ it needs to tread the path carefully; it needs not to become an evil in the Indian politics; take up the journey in a more political way, rather than going from the backdoor; uphold the sanctity of independent and constitutional bodies, because if that is not done, then what the country might witnesses in the electoral politics would not only be scary but would also end up weakening the very foundation of the Indian democracy. BJP no matter has a healthy vision, but it needs to go slowly; carefully.
