JAMMU, JULY 19: In a landmark move, the Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rangyug, Jammu, to launch the first-ever skill-based practical course in “Performing Arts” in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative, focusing primarily on theater, sets a pioneering example for educational institutions across the region by integrating practical training and experiential learning within the academic framework.

The MoU, signed between the Principal of GCW Parade, Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo and Director of Rangyug, Deepak Kumar, signifies a mutual commitment to enhancing the educational landscape by providing students with practical skills and professional development opportunities in the Performing Arts.

The MoU was officially signed in presence of Dr Alpana Vohra, Convener, Skill Development Cell, Prof. Surinder Singh, Convener, IQAC GCW Parade. Dr Gurpreet Kour, Skill Coordinator of the College, Mr. Ashish Sharma, Coordinator, Rangyug.

With a legacy spanning four decades, Rangyug is renowned for its dedication to promoting performing arts through research, training, and education. Having participated in numerous national and international theatre festivals, Rangyug brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record in theatre education to this collaboration.

Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, highlighting the significant impact it will have on students’ education and future career prospects. “This collaboration with Rangyug will provide our students with unprecedented opportunities for practical learning and professional development, right here in Jammu and Kashmir,” Dr. Ravender stated. “By providing hands-on experience and direct exposure to the performing arts industry, this initiative will significantly enhance employability opportunities for our students in the performing arts sector, including theatre, film, television, and other related fields”, he added.

He further said, “This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, fostering an education system that transcends traditional academic boundaries and incorporates learning from industry experts. By offering practical and skill-based training, GCW Parade and Rangyug aim to create new career avenues for students in the field of performing arts and contribute to the cultural and socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir. The course will promote cultural awareness and appreciation among students, fostering a deeper connection to their heritage and community. Beyond technical skills, the course will focus on personal growth, including communication skills, confidence building, and self-realization, preparing students to be effective leaders and change-makers in society.”

Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Kumar emphasized the importance of this collaboration in furthering Rangyug’s mission of artistic excellence and community engagement. “We are excited to partner with GCW Parade to bring high-quality theatre education to the region, enabling our youth to pursue their artistic passions without having to leave their home state,” said Deepak Kumar.

“This partnership aligns with our mission to promote women’s empowerment and social change through the arts,” he concluded. “We look forward to making a significant impact on the educational and cultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir through this groundbreaking initiative.”
