REASI, FEBRUARY 12: An awareness lecture on Sexuality and Reproductive Health was successfully organised by Government Degree College (GDC) Kakryal Katra in collaboration with its NSS unit and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Nursing College Kakryal Katra. The programme was organised under the able guidance of the worthy Principal of the college, Dr Rajani Bhagat. The programme was conducted with the objective of educating students about the importance of reproductive health, personal hygiene, gender sensitivity and responsible decision-making.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Usha Sharma, Head Department of Sociology, who highlighted the significance of spreading awareness about reproductive health among young adults. She emphasized that proper knowledge helps in eliminating myths, misconceptions and social taboos associated with sexuality and reproductive health.
The students from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Nursing College Kakryal Katra delivered informative and interactive sessions covering various important topics such as understanding adolescence and physical changes, menstrual health and hygiene, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and their prevention, safe and responsible behaviour and mental and emotional well-being.
The speakers explained the biological aspects of reproductive health in a scientific and easy-to-understand manner. They also addressed common myths and clarified doubts raised by students. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining personal hygiene, seeking medical advice when necessary and promoting healthy relationships based on mutual respect and consent. The nursing faculty provided practical guidance and encouraged students to approach health professionals for accurate information rather than relying on misinformation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shivani Charak from semester VI, expressing gratitude to the resource persons, organising committee and students for their enthusiastic participation. Overall, the awareness lecture was a meaningful initiative aimed at empowering students with essential knowledge about sexuality and reproductive health, thereby contributing to their overall well-being and responsible future.
