SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: The NSS Units of Government College of Education (GCoE), Srinagar, under the patronage of Prof. (Dr) Seema Naz, Principal/Nodal Principal, organised a special programme under the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign-2026.

The programme was aimed at promoting patriotism, national unity and respect for the Indian National Flag. It also commemorated 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, providing an opportunity for students, faculty members and participants to reflect upon the historical significance of the National Song and its contribution to India’s national consciousness.

The programme commenced with the rendition of the National Song, “Vande Mataram” followed by the National Anthem, presented by the cultural group of the college, in which all participants joined with due respect and solemnity. This presentation was appreciated by the participants and reinforced the patriotic spirit of the gathering.

The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Mobin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar highlighted the importance of patriotism, National integration and responsible citizenship among young people. He encouraged students to understand and uphold the values represented by the National Flag and to contribute positively to society through education, discipline, social responsibility and constructive participation. He also emphasised that National celebrations should not remain limited to symbolic observances but should inspire individuals to demonstrate their commitment to the Nation through their everyday actions and responsibilities.

Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, in her address, highlighted the importance of organising programmes that connect young people with the country’s history, National values and civic responsibilities. She further emphasised the role of educational institutions in nurturing responsible citizens and strengthening- the values of unity, discipline and patriotism among students.

The historical context and significance of “Vande Mataram” were presented by Dr Ab. Rashid Sheikh, HoD History. His address focused on the historical background of the song, its association with India’s freedom movement and its role in generating a sense of National consciousness. By placing “Vande Mataram” within the broader historical context of India’s struggle for independence, the session enabled the participants to appreciate its significance beyond its ceremonial use.

As a concluding activity, the participants joined the “Selfie with Tiranga” initiative. The activity provided an engaging opportunity for students and other participants to express their patriotic spirit and participate in the broader Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign. It also encouraged them to carry the message of respect for the National Flag beyond the college campus and into the wider community.

The programme brought together the themes of National pride, historical awareness, responsible citizenship and respect for National symbols, and served as a meaningful reminder that patriotism extends beyond ceremonial occasions and is reflected in responsible conduct, social service, unity, discipline and commitment to the development of the nation.
