Srinagar, Dec 19: In a significant development, the administration of Jammu & Kashmir has directed departments to immediately settle pending compassionate appointment cases, wherein no relaxation in age or educational qualification is required and posts are available.

The J&K government has directed administrative secretaries to settle all the pending compassionate appointments cases under SRO-43. “All administrative departments are advised to immediately settle the pending compassionate cases under SRO-43/1994, falling within the competence of administrative department/head of department, wherein no relaxation in age/qualification is involved and the posts are available within the departments, at their own level, after doing diligence and after all fulfillment of all codal formalities, as required under SRO-43/ 1994/ relevant provisions of law,” an office memorandum of the General Administration Department(GAD) said, a copy of which is with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

The departments have also directed to submit compliance report(s), indicating the number of such cases settled to the GAD on fortnightly basis for further perusal of chief secretary.

The GAD has further advised the departments that those SRO-43 cases which lie within the competence of the administrative department/head of department, shouldn’t be referred to it.

Under SRO 43, the kin of those killed in militancy or border shelling-firing related acts and the Government employees who died during services, were eligible for jobs in the government departments. It was replaced by a new compassionate appointment policy, which came into effect from January 1, 2023—(KNO)
