As of now, things present a different picture, trouble, unrest, and attempts to disrupt peace in Kashmir are gone, and what is visible on the ground, are plans for development and prosperity. These political parties resorted to one thing or the other to keep themselves relevant, but those elements have been completely uprooted from the ground, leaving less to no options for these people to play the politics of exploitation; politics that served none but their vested interests. While those who functioned as per the directions of Pakistan have been dealt with an iron fist, paralyzed once and for all, those who were working differently under the garb of being mainstreamers have also been identified and are out there for people to decide for themselves.
Even though they have been rendered irrelevant, they have been doing everything to stay relevant by raising one or the other issue: like what the Gupkar Alliance has been formed for, which is nothing but an attempt to at least protect their relevance. The reality, however, is that they stand exposed well before the people and those who used to follow them blindly have turned inquisitive and are asking tough questions. The biggest takeaway from the Home Minister’s rally in Baramulla as well as Rajouri was that people are important to the Modi Government and if there is a need for dialogue, the same needs to be held with the people of J&K, and not the enemy on the other side.
What is interesting here to note is that Abdullahs and Mrs. Mufti have not countered the comments made by the Home Minister effectively, which points to the fact that whatever has been said in Baramulla is right and that those who are being accused of something, have got quite less to present in their defence. The time has come for the people to take note of it and render these parties—that have flourished and thrived on the blood of people of J&K—irrelevant and ensure that they lose their recognition because only people can do that. The time has come for speaking up the truth, which both sides must do.
