BANDIPORA, JUNE 20: In a significant move towards promoting modern and efficient farming methods, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1, today organized a live demonstration of a mechanized paddy transplanter, drawing participation from scientists, progressive farmers, and other key stakeholders.
The event was held under the JKDST&IC- sponsored project titled ‘Standardization and Popularization of Mechanized Rice Transplanting in Kashmir Valley’ led by Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-Kashmir and Principal Investigator of the project.
Prof. Raihana emphasized the transformative potential of mechanized transplanting in enhancing efficiency, reducing labor dependency, and improving yields. She explained that machine transplanting can help overcome nursery failures and ensure timely transplantation, thereby safeguarding the cropping season.
The demonstration was also attended by Dr. Lal Singh, Professor, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-K and Co-PI of the project, Dr. Tariq Sultan, Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora-1, and other scientists.
Dr. Sultan highlighted the role of KVK in connecting research with field-level implementation and offered skill development support to local youth in preparing mat nurseries for use with transplanters.
Farmers were given hands-on exposure to the technology, witnessing firsthand the efficiency and precision of the equipment.
Many expressed strong interest in adopting mechanized transplanting to modernize their agricultural practices. The initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable and technology-driven farming in the district.
