The selection list of the J&K Service Selection Board (JKSSB) for the Sub-Inspector posts has been trashed and vehemently criticized for apparent ‘fraud’ and ‘mischief’ which has been allegedly played by those at the helm of affairs. On the face of it, there have been nearly 40 siblings shown to have been selected apart from other serious questions raised over the entire recruitment process.
The allegations leveled by the aspirants and scores of other organizations have flattened the tall claims of the JKSSB which has been stating that the exam—in which 97,793 candidates appeared on March 27 this year—as well as the selection process was conducted transparently. If the allegations are to be believed, then there have been major irregularities not only in the recruitment of J&K Police SIs but also in the Finance Accounts Assistants (FAA) and Panchayat Accounts Assistants (PAA) as well.
While the aspirants believe that there is a big scam behind the curtains, the points which they are making include: Most toppers who have figured in the selection list have fewer marks secured in other exams such as PAA and FAA while the majority of them, as is being alleged, have less than 50 marks in PAA and FAA exams. However, on the contrary, the same aspirants have managed to score more than 130 in the SI exam, while the toppers in the FAA exam have been shown to have scored below average in SI. The entire recruitment process has turned out to be strange and needs some digging to bring the bungling to the fore.
While such allegations are usually brushed off as ridiculous and baseless, this time, however, the Administration has taken a different line, ordering a probe to ascertain and identify the misdoings. Earlier, there were also allegations of mass bungling in the recruitment for the posts of fireman in the Fire & Emergency Services Department, but despite protests and agitations, there was no response, and the protests died on their own.
This time, the response has come from the LG Manoj Sinha himself, ordering the constitution of a probe panel headed by the Additional Chief Secretary Home, R K Goyal, to look into the matter and submit a report within the shortest time. But there were a few hits put in by the LG while talking about the probe which pointed towards the detection of misdoings, and fraud, already in the entire process because such statements are hardly heard, particularly in the case of JKSSB which has been beating the drum of the entire processes being fair and transparent.
The LG talked of ‘annulling’ the entire process—if faults were found—and conducting the same again with ‘transparency’. Enough for wise to decode the meaning, but what needs to be underlined here is that such misdoings—committed or not—only discourage the young.
