Ganderbal: Officials and workers are making every effort to clear the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Leh road, spanning 430 kilometers, which was shut down on January 7 due to heavy snowfall.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the task of clearing the road of snow at such high altitudes is “no easy feat”.

“Men and equipment have been pressed into service at 11,500 feet, particularly at the challenging Zojila Top, and the road would be opened as soon as possible,” the official said, adding that despite the bone-chilling cold and harsh snowstorms, the snow clearance teams persisted with their work.

The Ladakh UT has remained cut off from the rest of the country since January 7 after heavy snowfall which led to the blockade of the Zojila on the strategic highway.

The road connecting Ladakh with the rest of India is not just a stretch of asphalt and concrete, but a lifeline for the people living in this remote region. For centuries, Ladakh has relied on this road to transport essential goods and supplies, and to connect with the outside world—(KNO)
