SHOPIAN, APRIL 27: In a decisive move to curb drug trafficking and the illegal cultivation of poppy, the District Administration Shopian has intensified enforcement measures across the district, taking strict action against offenders and reinforcing its zero tolerance policy against narcotics.

As part of the ongoing crackdown, ARTO Shopian has suspended eleven driving licenses of individuals involved in NDPS cases registered at various police stations in the district.

Additionally, the registration certificate of one vehicle found involved in drug related activities has also been suspended, with further action under process as per law.

Simultaneously, joint teams comprising officials from Revenue, Police, and allied departments carried out extensive poppy destruction drives in multiple areas, including Shadab Karewa, Zawoora, Pinjora, and Ganowpora.

The teams identified patches of illegal cultivation, destroyed the poppy crops on the spot and registered FIRs against the cultivators involved.

Authorities emphasized that strict surveillance and enforcement drives will continue in the coming days, with coordinated efforts among all concerned departments.

Residents have been strongly advised to refrain from engaging in the cultivation of poppy. Public cooperation has been sought in reporting such activities to ensure a drug free and healthy society.

Instead, farmers are encouraged to adopt lawful and productive agricultural practices that contribute to sustainable livelihoods and the overall development of the district.

The administration has made it clear that any individual found indulging in such unlawful activities will face strict legal action under relevant provisions of law.
