KATHUA, AUGUST 10: The District Administration Kathua on Monday launched the National Deworming Day campaign here from Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahima Madan launched the campaign as deworming tablets were administered to the school children. The ADC underscored that the campaign aims to promote awareness about the importance of regular deworming, personal hygiene and preventive healthcare among children and adolescents.
Highlighting the health benefits of deworming, the ADC said that intestinal worm infections can adversely affect the nutritional status of children, leading to anaemia and impaired physical and cognitive development. She appealed to all parents and guardians to ensure that their wards receive the deworming tablets during the campaign period.
The ADC further informed that dedicated teams have been constituted to ensure maximum coverage, with field functionaries visiting schools and Anganwadi Centres to administer the tablets in a systematic manner.
A mass recitation of Vande Mataram was also held at the school with enthusiastic participation of students and staff. The programme highlighted the importance of civic values, national unity and responsible citizenship among the younger generation.
Earlier, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vijay Raina informed that nearly 1.85 lakh children in the age group of 1 to 19 years, studying in government and private schools as well as those registered at Anganwadi Centres, are being covered under the campaign. He further informed that a mop up day is also earmarked on 17 August 2026 to cover any left out children.
