NHAI builds 1,131 km roads in J&K over 5 years: GoI

Srinagar, Dec 20 : Over the last five years, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed a total of 1,131 kilometers of road construction in Jammu and Kashmir, the Government of India informed Lok Sabha on Friday.

In a written reply to a question, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Jairam Gadkari, as per the news agency said that a total of 1,131 kilometers of road construction in Jammu and Kashmir so far.

“In 2019-20, 46 kilometers were completed, followed by 234 kilometers in 2020-21 and 263 kilometers in 2021-22. In 2022-23, the completed road length was 217 kilometers, and in 2023-24, it was 243 kilometers,” he said.

As of November 2024, the NHAI according to his reply has constructed 128 kilometers of road for the year 2024-25.

“Numerous approved highway projects are in the pipeline, aimed at boosting regional development, ensuring better access to remote areas, and enhancing overall road safety,” Gadkari said.

He added that this sustained progress not only signifies improved transportation but also lays the groundwork for enhanced trade, tourism, and socio-economic integration in the region
