Preparations completed for International Day of Yoga 2026 in Shopian

SHOPIAN, JUNE 20: In order to ensure meticulous planning and seamless conduct of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 celebrations at the district level, a preparatory meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, in the meeting hall of the Mini Secretariat, Shopian.

The meeting reviewed in detail the arrangements and logistical requirements for the successful observance of the International Day of Yoga, which is scheduled to be celebrated on June 21, 2026, at the Mini Secretariat, Shopian.During the deliberations, a comprehensive assessment of the preparedness of all stakeholder departments was undertaken.

The ADDC emphasized coordinated efforts among all concerned agencies to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event. Specific responsibilities were assigned to the concerned departments and officers for effective execution of the programme.

Key arrangements reviewed included adequate security measures, supply of yoga mats and yoga dresses, establishment of connectivity for live streaming of the event, installation of an outdoor LED screen and Public Address System (PAS), provision of drinking water facilities, uninterrupted power supply, refreshments, medical aid and emergency response services, deployment of mobile toilet facilities, besides other necessary arrangements.

The ADDC directed all concerned departments to remain fully prepared and ensure that all assigned tasks are completed well in time so that the event is conducted in a befitting manner.

It was informed during the meeting that, in addition to the main district-level event at Mini Secretariat, parallel yoga sessions shall also be organized at GDC Shopian, GDC Zainapora, SDM Office Zainapora and Indoor Stadium Arhama.

Besides, yoga programmes will be conducted at all 11 AYUSH Arogya Mandir Centres and one AYUSH Unit in the district in collaboration with 12 Government UPS, MS, HS and HSS institutions to promote mass participation and spread awareness about the benefits of yoga.

The meeting was attended by ADC Shopian, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz; Principal GDC Shopian, Prof. Tariq Hussain Mir; GM DIC Shopian, Shurjil Naik; ASP Shopian, Rameez Raja, District Ayush Officer, district and sectoral officers and representatives of various departments of the district.
