Principal Magistrate JJB Shopian inspects Central Jail Srinagar

SHOPIAN, FEBRUARY, 25: The Juvenile Justice Board Shopian, under the leadership of Principal Magistrate Bazila Bashir conducted a surprise inspection at Central Jail Srinagar

The Principal Magistrate was accompanied by APP Nighat Meharbaan, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Rafie Ahmad Ganie and LCPO Sumaira Imtiyaz.

The initiative was undertaken in strict adherence to the mandates outlined in the Juvenile Justice Act, ensuring the protection and rights of juveniles in conflict with the law.

During the inspection, the Superintendent Jail facilitated a comprehensive tour of all barracks within the facility, enabling the team to meticulously assess the living conditions and interactions with inmates.

The visit included detailed interactions with inmates to verify their identities and ensure compliance with legal standards.

Principal Magistrate Bazila engaged with several inmates, and based on appearance and thorough interaction, identified a few individuals who potentially qualify as juveniles under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Immediate steps were initiated to verify their age and circumstances, emphasizing the Board’s commitment to upholding juvenile justice principles.
