Srinagar, Sep 09 : Nilofar Sajad, a 43-year-old woman from Srinagar, has become an independent candidate for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir. She is contesting from the Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Speaking to the news agency, Nilofar said that she was initially willing to contest elections from her hometown of Pulwama, but her form was rejected due to some issues. She then submitted her form from Chadoora, where her family currently resides, and was accepted with the election symbol “Pen”.

Nilofar, wife of Sajad Ahmad Gandru, said she decided to enter politics after witnessing the exploitation of youth by officials and politicians. She hopes to bring a change in the lives of people in Jammu and Kashmir.

“I have seen the suffering of Kashmiris for long, and I believe they deserve a dignified life. I will use my pen symbol to fight for justice and bring a real smile on their faces,” she said.

Nilofar criticised the government’s claims of peace and development in the region, saying that it is all fictitious. She believes that educated youth are being forced to take wrong steps due to lack of job opportunities.

“When no one listens to the issues of youth like unemployment and other things, they get involved in drugs, depression, and other things. The problem lies in the system when no one is listening to them,” she said.

Nilofar urged voters to vote wisely and not fall prey to false promises made by politicians. Her message to voters is to vote for someone who can really bring a change.

“My message to all voters will be to vote wisely and don’t come in false promises of those who have already looted you. Vote for someone who can really bring a change,” she said
