KISHTWAR, JUNE 25: In solemn remembrance of the imposition of Emergency on June 25, 1975 — a commemorative event titled “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” was held today at the GDC Auditorium Kishtwar.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, who was the Chief Guest led the observance and paid tribute to the countless individuals, political leaders, journalists and citizens who stood to uphold democratic values during that critical period.

Addressing the gathering, the DC reflected, “I consider Emergency to be the most inhuman act in India’s democratic journey. Today’s observance is not just a historical remembrance but a reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to democratic values and constitutional morality.”

He emphasized the need to educate the younger generation about the consequences of authoritarian rule and the importance of preserving the sanctity of the Constitution. “We must ensure that no dictatorial mentality ever dares to erode our democratic foundation again,” he added.

The DC underlined the importance of such events in instilling constitutional awareness across all sections of society. He described the Emergency as a time when “civil liberties were attacked, constitutional safeguards violated and the democratic spirit of the nation crushed.”

As part of the event, cultural activities were organized to highlight the theme of constitutional values and resistance against authoritarianism. The program also featured impactful speeches by individuals who personally witnessed the Emergency, sharing their experiences and insights from that dark chapter in Indian democracy.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, local citizens, media fraternity and government officers all coming together in a unified voice to uphold democratic ideals.

The observance was witnessed by ADC Kishtwar Pawan Kotwal, PO ICDS Kishtwar Rishi Kumar Sharma, CEO KDA Kishtwar Kaiser Bhawani, SDM Paddar Dr. Amit Kumar, DTO Kishtwar along with other senior officers and members of civil society.
