Satish Sharma lays foundation for upgradation of playfield at Radpora, other playfields in Downtown Srinagar

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 10: In a major push towards strengthening sports infrastructure in the heart of Srinagar, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma today laid the foundation stone for upgradation of playfield at Radpora and other adjoining playfields by way of seating tiers at an estimated project cost of ₹100.00 lakh.

The foundation stone was laid by the Minister in presence of MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar; MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, other senior officers from the Youth Services & Sports department and local representatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma said that the government is committed towards nurturing sports culture across Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that every aspiring athlete, especially from urban and downtown areas, has access to modern sporting infrastructure and facilities.

He highlighted that the upgradation works, like construction of seating tiers, levelling, and allied amenities, will provide better avenues for local youth to engage in sports activities and develop their talent in a structured environment.

The Minister further assured that the department of Youth Services & Sports will continue to extend full support to the region’s sports aspirants through upgraded infrastructure, coaching programs, and tournaments aimed at encouraging participation at both grassroots and professional levels.

Local residents, Sports persons and youth from Radpora and adjoining areas hailed the efforts of the Minister and the government for the much-needed developmental initiative, terming it a major step toward transforming downtown Srinagar into a vibrant hub of sports activity.
