SRINAGAR, AUGUST 05: Land Resources Division of ‘The Energy and Resources Institute’ (TERI), with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, inaugurated a three-day training workshop titled ‘Forest and Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges of Adaptation and Mitigation’ at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).

The workshop brings together 30 participants, including Class I officials from the Horticulture department and faculty members from SKUAST-K. It aims to build capacity on climate change adaptation and mitigation through various nature-based solution (NBS) interventions, while aligning with India’s climate commitments under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Prof. Haroon Rashid Naik, Director, Research, SKUAST-Kashmir, presided over the session and delivered the inaugural address.

The keynote address was delivered by Irfan Rasool Wani, Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K Forest department.
K. N. Qaiser, Controller of Examinations, SKUAST-K, also shared his valuable remarks, emphasizing the importance of integrating climate resilience into academic and field-level practices.

The training programme includes a mix of classroom learning and hands-on field exposure. Over the course of three days, participants will gain insights into carbon finance, geospatial tools, forest-based climate solutions, carbon stock assessment techniques, and climate policy frameworks. The sessions are designed to help stakeholders integrate scientific and policy knowledge into practical action on the ground.

The workshop is being facilitated by a multidisciplinary team from TERI.
